- <p> Technology may soon revolutionize U.S. attempts to patrol
- the flow of people, drugs and guns across its 1,900-mile border
- with Mexico. The sensors employed by the Border Patrol tend to
- be tripped off by every passing cow and coyote. Sandia National
- Laboratories in Albuquerque is developing a sophisticated new
- array of sensors that can transmit photographs of a trespasser
- to a central monitoring station, indicate direction and speed
- of movement, and also measure the presence of metal, a signal
- that the target is armed.
